Penny For Your Thoughts

It all began long, long ago during the final months of a semester at college. Frazzled and frustrated I wasn't taking any classes to help me have a creative output. One day I was looking through a Japanese pattern magazine for quilts. I was surprised to find nestled in the back this simple pattern.

Intended as a way to use up some extra quilt blocks, I simplified my version and just used some fun fabric!

This fabric came from an old yukata I found while in Japan. I love the rich colors and feeling of it!

Since I didn't have time to sit at a sewing machine, I decided to take it with me and hand stitch everything. I was so surprised at how satisfying it is to sew everything by hand. It takes time, but is really neat! I think it adds a nice finishing touch too.

After I made some tweaks to the pattern, I ended up with a perfect fit for all of my cards and money!

I might have gone a little overboard after I finished it though...

By putting the coins in the back pocket, they stay locked in place!

Sewing doesn't have to be complicated or fancy to look good! All it takes is a desire to make something and the patience to do it right. With the right tools and training, it doesn't take very long. Sometimes the mistakes can even make it better!

Stitching out, until next time! ;)
